RESUSCITATION MEASURE OPTIONS

Resuscitative measure options: Respiratory or cardiopulmonary arrest is an uncommon, but possible, complication in elective anesthetic procedures in healthy pets. Sick and debilitated pets or trauma patients have an increased possibility of an adverse event during anesthesia.

No resuscitative measures: In the event of cardiopulmonary arrest, no attempts will be taken to stabilize or revive the patient.

External measures: In the event of a cardiopulmonary arrest, CPR will be applied, injectable medications will be administered to stimulate heart and respiration, and IV fluid therapy implemented to maintain blood pressures.

Pets that have undergone cardiopulmonary arrest and been successfully revived may still require long-term monitoring and treatment of secondary complications such as kidney dysfunction, cardiac arrhythmias, and neurologic deficits.
